Microneedling in Summer—Should You or Should You Not?
Let’s talk microneedling in the summer. Its common for my patients to think they can’t do ANY procedures in the summer. The answer? You can totally do it—as long as you play it smart. While we don’t like resurfacing procedures like chemical peels or resurfacing laser in the hot/summer months - microneedling plays a little better.
Why Microneedling Is Awesome
Microneedling is all about boosting your skin’s natural healing process. Tiny needles create micro-injuries, which sounds intense, but you’re numb, and it leads to a glowy, rejuvenated complexion. It helps with scars, hyperpigmentation, and fine lines, making it a go-to treatment for basically anyone with a face.
The Summer “Problem”
Here’s where things get tricky. After microneedling, your skin is extra sensitive, meaning UV rays can cause irritation, redness, and even pigmentation issues if you’re not careful. And since summer usually means more time outside, sweat, and humidity, you’ve got to take a few precautions to make sure your post-microneedling skin stays happy. BUT FEAR NOT - THEY’RE PRECAUTIONS I WANT YOU TO BE TAKING ANYWAY!!!!!!
How to Microneedle Like a Pro in Summer
SPF Is Non-Negotiable – A broad-spectrum SPF 50+ sunscreen is your new best friend. Apply it generously and reapply often.
Stay in the Shade – Avoid direct sun exposure for at least a week. If you must be outside, grab a hat or rock some oversized sunglasses.
Hydrate, Hydrate, Hydrate – Inside and out! Drink plenty of water and use gentle, soothing skincare to help your skin recover.
Pause the Potent Stuff – No exfoliants, retinoids, or alcohol-based products until your skin is back to normal.
Plan Strategically – If you know you’ll be spending a lot of time outdoors, maybe schedule your microneedling session earlier in the season or on days when you’ll be mostly inside.
Final Verdict
Microneedling in summer isn’t off-limits—you just need to be extra cautious with sun exposure and aftercare. As long as you follow these tips, you’ll be on your way to healthy skin, no matter the season.
