Retinoid BREAKDOWN: Why/How they work and how to use them: Part 1

WHAT is a retinoid?
This question can actually have a really complex answer, so let’s just say “RETINOID” is going to be a term for a family of Vitamin A products. So whether its prescription Tretinoin or over the counter retinol? They’re all in the family. At this point, It’s impossible to ignore the science, longevity and proven track record of retinoids in terms of anti aging, pigment and acne.

WHY do we use them? They’re often used in teenagers for acne, but the majority of retinoids are being used for their anti aging/skin brightening properties. The way retinoids work forces the skin to turnover faster, which helps with brightening/pigment/texture/tone. They also increase our collagen and elastin production, strengthening and plumping the skin from beneath the surface.

HOW to use them? Depending on the strength of the product you’re using, nightly may be a tough start.

Ask this: Do I want to WALK, JOG or RUN to the finish line?

Walking = using 2-3x/week, working up to nightly slowly

Jogging = Every other night, then nightly

Running = Use nightly right from the start, push through the anticipated reactions of redness, flaking

Want gentle to start? Use SkinBetter’s AlphaRet.
